In-office teeth whitening at Impressions Dental

August 15th, 2011

A whiter smile is one just one dentist visit away! Teeth can change color in several ways, including staining from foods, smoking, coffee, teas and colas. In some cases injury can result in color changes. Some antibiotic treatments at critical ages can also cause staining. There are many products and techniques available for patients who want to achieve a whiter smile, and with so many options available, it can be difficult to choose the method that is right for you. The best way to begin any teeth whitening regimen is to schedule an appointment, and talk to Dr. Annette Warren about the differences.

Finding the Best Treatment for You

Schedule a visit with Dr. Warren to learn whether whitening procedures would be effective for you. Whiteners do not correct all types of discoloration. For example, yellowish teeth will probably bleach well, brownish teeth may bleach less well and grayish teeth may not bleach well at all. Likewise, whitening may not enhance your smile if you have had tooth-colored fillings or crowns. The whitener will not affect the color of these materials and they will stand out in your newly whitened smile. In these cases, you do have other options such as porcelain veneers.

Tooth Whitening Treatments

• Professional teeth whitening with your doctor
• At-home whitening system (tray-based or whitening strips)
• Whitening toothpaste

August featured patient testimonials!

Here they are, our August featured testimonials! Thanks again to everyone who wrote in - we hope everybody is having a great summer!

"I have traveled the globe and have lived on many continents. Dr. Warren stands out in my mind as most professional and provides superior service to those who I have become acquainted with through my travels." ~ Christian R.

"My first visit to "Impressions" was memorable; this was the first time a dentist had ever taken my blood pressure! When Dr. Warren took mine she advised me to go and see my doctor because it was very high. I told her I never had a problem with my pressure and I was sure it was only because I was sitting in her chair, and I was deathly afraid. Needless to say when I went to my doctor the next morning my pressure was fine. Going to "Impressions" got easier each time I went, because I knew there would be no pain. She is so comforting and concerned. During my Invisalign visits the staff and I bonded like family. I was very pleased with the outcome of the work done on my teeth and now some 12 months later I'm still very pleased. I would recommend going to "Impressions" and Dr. Warren they treat you like family and take good care of all your needs." ~ Shirley C.

Gum disease and your health, from Impressions Dental

July 25th, 2011

Don’t put off your dental visit with Dr. Warren any longer! As we’ve shared in previous blog posts, oral health issues have been increasingly linked to other health concerns, such as heart disease. Cardiovascular disease remains American's number one killer, claiming more lives than the rest of major causes of death, according to the American Heart Association. Studies have shown a correlation between gum disease and heart disease, underscoring the importance of good oral health care.

Studies are also beginning to suggest that patients, especially those with periodontal disease, are believed to have an elevated risk of heart attack and stroke. Since most patients are not regularly visiting a heart specialist, their regular visits to Impressions Dental can help detect early warning signs of heart issues, prevent gum disease or at least catch it in its early stages. We’d also like you to know your numbers: blood pressure (less than 120/80), cholesterol (less than 200) and BMI (less than 25).

Additionally, if it’s been more than six months since your last visit to our Nassau dental office, please give us a call! Summer makes for a great time to check in with us!
